Moments are the most precious thing a person can have. Although they cannot be relived physically, they can be relived emotionally. These moments can be shared with other people as well, but something is needed to show others the picture you have in mind. Photography came into existence to make this possible, and photo frames enable us to share the photos we have taken.
In almost every home, people have photographs on display. Showing families, friends and events, these photos are more than just for decoration but to capture at least a part of people’s lives. Weather in albums or photo frames, photographs are an important part of what we are.
With modern technology, taking photographs and putting them on display has become much easier than ever before. You do not even have to worry if you have a camera when you want to take a picture. All you need to do is to have your cell phone with you and every moment is ready to be captured. Then, there is the process of transferring the photo to a computer and printing it. However, digital photo frames have simplified this too.
Now, with digital photo frames, it is not necessary to even print the photographs to put them on display. Rather than connecting the phone to your computer, you can connect it to a digital photo frame and transfer the pictures to it. The photo frame can sit anywhere and keep showing your various photographs like a slide show. Hence, you are able to relive as many moments as possible with much greater ease and speed. Since digital picture frames can be set almost anywhere, they allow you to share the most beautiful moments of your life in photos easily and have a much greater impact with your photos than was ever possible before.
While traditional photo frames look good, they do not have these kinds of features. You would have to print the photos and then fix them into the frame individually and clearly cannot enjoy them in the quantity as digital frames permit. There are drawbacks to digital frames though. The main one being they require a power source. Depending on the frame, they either need to be near an electrical outlet for power or will require periodic battery charging.
With their extra features and functions, modern picture frames allow people to enjoy pictures in ways that were not possible in the past. As the technology continues to improve, they are likely to add more and more features and offer people even more options when displaying their photos.
A relatively new concept in the world of digital photography is the digital photo frame. The digital photo frame or the DPF is the digital equivalent of the time honoured photo frame, except that it has plenty of advantages over the regular photo frame.
A DPF is a simple TFT or LCD screen which has a certain amount of internal memory in the form of a memory card or hard disk. It effectively acts a digital repository of your photos, with the added advantage of being able to display these photos as well. The amount of photos which can be stored depends on the size of the internal memory and the size of the photos.
These DPF’s run on electricity or batteries, but mostly they can be plugged into a power socket. The modern Digital frames are just slightly bigger and heavier than the traditional frames and they come in various sizes and budgets. These frames solve a lot of problems faced
Many older people are not comfortable with using digital photography, because they might have problems using the computer. Alternatively many people may find the task of storing, organising and viewing photos on computers very difficult. These people will find the features of the digital photo frames very effective.
As I mentioned before it is possible to store anywhere from 30 to a thousand photos on a digital frame, so effectively it can serve as a photo album. Moreover the interface of all these digital frames is very easy and elegant. This way you can kind of flip though the photos, similar to a paper based album.
They have another advantage. You must have noticed that the photos in traditional frames tend to lose their sheen over the years, and they become dull and lack lustre with passage of time. This is because the photo is made out of paper and paper ages with time leading to spoiling of the photo. However with a digital photo frame, this problem gets eliminated. Since these frames store photos in a digital format, they remain good for eternity unless something happens to the frame itself.
However there are a few disadvantages to using a DPF. The first disadvantage being the high initial outlay; even a very basic model is likely to cost around $200 and everyone may not be willing to invest so much initially, but the quality of photos, its storage, and durability make the price worth it.
The second one is a problem which is common to all digital devices. The memory card or hard disk can get corrupted and all your photos could be lost. Therefore always keep a back up of your photos, somewhere away from your regular computer (This advice applies everywhere; always keep a back up of all your digital data).
With the increasing popularity of these digital frames, these are likely to become more common and useful photography accessory.
Who doesn’t want to stay in sync with time and the changing developments taking place around? If you are still sticking to the old rules and utilizing the obsolete products, you are actually living far behind from the new generation. So, get started with getting all that technology has to offer in the contemporary times. And do not be worried about the monetary aspects. Given the stiff competition amid a range of brands, you will be spoilt for choices, as each brand is at par with the other in terms of prices. And if you buy these new-age products at an online shopping mall, your efforts will be further rewarded as products here are always offered at great discounts. Do a research to find out your favorite shopping mall and then start buying from your chosen online store.
So, if you have plain old picture frames, get the new age digital photo frames and enjoy an altogether different feel. Whether it is creation of slideshows displaying your vacation pictures/family photographs/birthday party, etc. or just getting one picture displayed and changing it with time or getting it connected to the USB Internet for downloading of photographs, and more, you can do all in digital photo frames. These gadgets are about the size and shape of an ordinary picture frame; the screen size is measured in inches diagonally from corner to corner. This gadget comes with an LCD screen. You can also get information displayed on the screen along with the pictures of your choice. Here are few features digital photo frames come with:
• Resolution, i.e. the number of pixels for better display of images. If you choose digital photo frames with higher resolution, you can get crisper and clearer images
• The width and height generally starts in the 4:3 ratio. You can opt for wider screens as well
• The frames of digital photo frames come in various styles and colors; you can choose one to suit the décor of your room or interiors
• Most digital photo frames come with remote control facility enabling users change the settings from the comfort of his/her space
• A digital photo frame comes with internal memory; it also has options for extra memory cards
• Go for wi-fi digital photo frames for sending pictures to the frame wirelessly
• These gadgets also come with sound effects accompanying the pictures displayed
• Video and optional batteries are available in few models.
Picture Frames
One of the most common items that are used as house display items are picture frames. Unlike ordinary decorating items, picture frames always stay unique when the frame design is combined with the picture being used. For the picture frame to be complete, a photo must be developed or printed on a certain size for it to fit and display well.
This serves as the greatest limitation of these tradition photo frames, especially when film photography went out of the mainstream. Now digital photo frames are making their way to average consumers as more users switch to digital photography.
What are Digital Picture Frames?
The modern frames have a design similar to the traditional picture frames, but instead of using a transparent plastic to house a single photo, an LCD panel is used instead. For cost efficiency, most of the digital photo frames are for tabletops and are usually sized less than 10 inches. More expensive photo frames that cost above $200 can support up to 15″ photos.
Most digital picture frames have a card slot or USB port that serves as a means of feeding photos into the frame. Although some photo frames have internal memory, digital photo frames display digital images by reading the contents of memory card or USB device.
What are the common features of Digital Frames?
All digital picture frames can read JPEG image formats. Once the card or USB device is plugged in, the first or random image is displayed immediately once everything is set. A photo may remain static on the display as long as there is power. What makes digital picture frames so versatile is the ease of changing the photo with the press of a button. Most digital picture frames these days allow timed slideshows so that all the digital images have their spotlight on the frame.
Are there any advanced features that better models have?
Some of the advanced models come with additional features like Wi-Fi capability that can allow photos to be displayed from popular photo sharing sites. Wi-Fi also allows other Wi-Fi enabled devices to share photos wirelessly without the need of a memory card or a USB flash disk. Others go beyond pictures by supporting additional formats like video files, audio files, RSS feeds, text files, and other multimedia content. Some of the stylish models may have advanced slideshow options and transition effects to impress any digital enthusiast. Digital photo frames may even come with a cable that can be plugged into a TV to allow photos to be displayed on the big screen instead.
Since these photo frames fall in the category of portable digital devices, digital photo frames are a bit more expensive than the ordinary frames. However, their versatility and adaptation to digital photography makes these trendy frames worth the investment. Having a single digital picture frame can grant you unlimited photo display possibilities without the need of printing a photo ever again. Digital picture frames are just one of the examples on how display technology is evolving.
Innovation is not necessarily the time saver and the great simplifier people try to make it out to be.
Take for example the picture frame and the gradual conversion to the digital frame, and the added complications it has added to our lives.
Like digital cameras, the digital frame has cut down the cost of photography (remember how much money you used to drop on the cost of buying and processing films every month). However, the digital picture frame hasn’t helped people whose basic grasp of photography is limited to not much more than ‘the big button is the one that makes the picture’.
And let’s face it, that group includes you, me and much of the human race. This doesn’t make life easy for anyone selling wholesale digital photo frames.
The size doesn’t seem to be a factor in how confused we can get when it comes to digital screens and getting the images that are right for them. Someone with a 7 digital photo frame can be just as confused as someone with a 8 inch digital photo frame and heaven help the poor person with the 10 digital frame.
And as gadgets gradually converge into one and people can do more and more with one thing things are going to get more complex too with people having to grapple with photo frames that are also a digital TV receiver, might work as a digital video frame or could even play music.
So before we get into the wiz-bang wizardry that has turned cell phones and media players into incomprehensible devices let’s have a look at a couple of questions:
Do you need to re-size the pictures? What formats do pictures need to be in? What should I do to photos look good on digital picture frames? How can I transfer old pictures to digital frames?
Do you need to re-size the pictures?
This question can be especially tricky for people trying to source wholesale digital photo frames. The answer to this question very much depends on what type of digital photo frame you’ve got. Home digital frames and larger-sized electronic picture frames won’t be a problem, regardless of whether they’re 7 digital photo frame or 10 digital picture frame. However, keychain digital picture frames tend to be a little more difficult and you may need to resize these.
What formats do pictures need to be in?
Depending on what digital picture frame you buy and the digital picture frame you have the format could be quite different.
Regardless of whether it’s a 7 inch digital frame, or any kind of digital frame most of the common picture formats should work on it. These are usually JPEG, as well as the occasional digital picture frame that plays Tiff and BMP as well.
While JPEG is the most common digital photo format a digital photo frame will show there’s no need to get concerned as this is the digital format used by most digital cameras and image devices.
If you’re trying to get wholesale digital photo frames then you might want to make sure it at least displays the JPEG format, as it is the one that most people are most likely to be operating in.
However, where some people run into trouble is when they use their cell phone or their MP4 to take a photo in an unusual format and then put it onto their LCD digital frame.
Thankfully there are several sources of open source converters that are free to download and will get most formats working. These include sites like CNet and Sourceforge. So it’s even possible to get a digital photo from your unlocked cell phone onto your LCD digital frame.
What should I do to photos look good on digital picture frames?
Again this question depends very much on the digital photo frame that you’re using on how to make your digital photo look good. And it’s always good to take a closer look at the digital photo frames digital or paper instructions and manufacturer tips.
However, as a general rule the best way to get the best effects out of your digital picture frame is to make sure the picture is close to the same size, if not bigger than the frame you are trying to put it on and to make sure you have a decent resolution on the photographs.
So what does all of that mean when it’s at home, why does it help if the picture is bigger and picture resolution… whaah?
I think, even people trying to find wholesale digital photo frames would be going huh…
It wouldn’t come as a surprise to many people that you get a better result of making something bigger smaller than you do of making something smaller bigger… with the possible exceptions of bureaucracy and the most common form of plastic surgery of course.
So as a result if you try to take a picture from a keychain digital photo frame, one that might be sized 128 pixels by 128 pixels, and throw it on a 7 digital picture frame then there’s a good chance that that on the 7 digital photo frame that digital photo might look, at best like a Georges Seurat work. Or, at worse, a ‘find the hidden picture’ image or color blindness test.
Same goes for pictures being shifted from a 7 digital picture frame to a 10 or 15 inch digital picture frame, but with less severe results.
The second important consideration to factor in when trying to get the best results for your images on a LCD frame is the frames digital resolution compared to that of the image you’re getting the picture off.
If the image is from a website, it’s a cell phone creation or some digital creation that looked fantastic on the computer screen then get ready for a shock when you throw it on some high res digital frames. While a large number of digital photo picture frames still work on the 72 pixels per inch resolution more and more work are working on the 300 pixels per inch resolution.
What is more when it comes time to print them out to give to Cleatus your computer illiterate cousin “It’s not gonna look all cloudy and muddy like”. This is likely to apply more to larger frames than digital frames that are smaller. A 7 inch digital frame shouldn’t give you too many problems for example.
But it still is a worthy question for people sourcing wholesale digital photo frames as it will help you give your customers a better experience and stop customer complaints and questions before they happen.
How can I transfer old pictures to digital frames?
This question is turning up more and more online as people start to realize the benefit of having a LCD frame that can show off 50 or so photos at once as opposed to a wooden photo frame that will only show one, and which may cost a considerable amount to fill.
Thankfully it’s fairly easy to get older photos from their non digital frames into digital formats that can be loaded onto your computer or onto a 7 digital photo frame.
The first thing to be done is to convert your picture from the physical to digital. This is done with a scanner.
These are fairly common and quite cheap. If you’ve got a computer then it can be a useful tool but even if you’ve decided to go without then photo shops and computer shops will have one that they’ll let you use for a nominal fee (usually just a couple of bucks or a handful of corn or, in some circumstances, a fluttering of the eye and a raising of the lips).
Once the pictures are digitalized they can be put onto a TF card or USB and transmitted to the digital photo picture frames directly or put onto a CD and transferred from the computer via a USB cable.
The normal rules apply when it comes time to save these images, make sure they’re the right dimensions, file type (JPEG nine times out of 10 but check you photo frame) and resolution.
So, it appears that putting images onto digital frames isn’t as hard as you’d normally expect and even shifting a physical picture from a photo frame to LCD digital frame isn’t as hard as you’d think it would be.
